2017 has been a blast at Big Wave PR!

2017 ushered in our 10th year in business and what an amazing year it has been! We’ve been delighted to work across a wide range of businesses, to help our clients develop their brand awareness and boost their bottom lines.

This year we won a hat trick of awards!

2017 got off to a great start at Big Wave PR with the launch of this year’s LIBOR funded tours to Normandy for D Day veterans in association with Royal British Legion. This is the fourth year we’ve been working on these highly emotive tours but the first we’ve had the opportunity to travel back with these brave heroes. Thanks to a fresh approach we doubled tours for 2017 and have a waiting list of veterans for 2018. Our media relations campaign reached every single national newspaper and we’re very proud of the team’s achievements.

Big Wave PR: Putting Culture on the Agenda

This year we also started managing the press office for the Civic Theatre in Chelmsford, which has been great fun. We’ve had mods on scooters turn-up for the launch of All or Nothing and panto dames live on air. Our support of Chelmsford City Council has also seen us assist the PR for Chelmsford Museums, which gained a major cash injection from the Heritage Lottery Fund for major development works. We’ve been concentrating our efforts on boosting visitor figures for their various events, including their Science Discovery Days, which has seen visitor figures soar. Keep your eyes peeled for lots of things to do at Chelmsford Museums in 2018.

The Big Wave PR team likes a little culture and this year our Creative Director became a regular on BBC Essex’s Tony Fisher show. In 2016 Carl Allen launched his first book, ‘London Gig Venues’, and thanks to his encyclopaedic knowledge of live music venues has been taking listeners on a monthly whirlwind tour of the county’s musical heritage.

Another highlight of 2017 was supporting the Royal British Legion with their fundraiser to help veterans of Monte Cassino. Here we organised an amateur v. professional rugby match in London and gala dinner hosted by BBC Breakfast’s Mike Bushell. The aim was to raise funds and awareness about those who served in this hard-fought battle. We’re very pleased that through this fundraising activity, £40,000 was raised and 20 veterans plus a carer and family member will now be able to head back to Italy in May, to mark the anniversary of the battle. New Clients

In September we also boosted our property portfolio and added Urbane International to our books. Urbane offers stunning designer apartments in Barcelona and has already been featured in The Guardian, The Sunday Times, House Beautiful and the Wealth Scene. We’ve also continued working with Beresfords estate agents and really-pleased that we’ve managed to keep them in the national newspapers and glossy magazines every single month. They also record a spike in their website figures every time we secure national coverage – that shows the benefits of PR!

An award-winning 2017

We were celebrating once again in October with three gongs at this year’s CIPR Pride awards. It’s the first year we’ve won a hat trick and were delighted to pick up a silver in the consumer category for the third year in a row! We also won gold for Best Event and Best Not-for-profit campaign. The event was staged at the Guildhall in Cambridge and it was lovely to get together with colleagues and also see our client, The Survey Initiative, walk off with a silver for best Internal Communications campaign.
