East Herts and North Herts District Councils’ joint ‘Shop Safe, Shop Local’ campaign, managed by leading PR and marketing agency, Big Wave PR, has been shortlisted for a CIPR PRide award (Anglia, Thames and Chilterns).
Shop Safe, Shop Local was launched in autumn of 2020 and helped to promote key messaging on how to shop safe during the pandemic; the campaign also supported local businesses by encouraging residents to shop local and support retail outlets, bars and restaurants in their High Street. The campaign included media relations, radio, print and outdoor advertising as well as social media. In all the campaign offered nearly two million opportunities to see the campaign!
Overseeing ‘Shop Safe, Shop Local’ was Benjamin Wood, Head of Communications, Strategy and Policy at East Herts District Council, he’s delighted to be shortlisted for the award. He says: “This is excellent recognition for the team, the last 18 months have been particularly tough for everyone but running a Covid-19 awareness campaign has been very testing. The team worked hard to adapt to the ever-changing rules and regulations plus lockdowns and were quick to change the messaging and provide support in areas that most needed it.”
He continued: “We’re very proud to have been shortlisted for such a prestigious accolade and look forward to the finals in October.”
The campaign was launched and developed by award-winning PR and marketing agency, Big Wave PR. Hilary Collins, Founder and Managing Director, Big Wave PR, says it’s a campaign she will never forget: “On day one of the campaign the country went into lockdown, so Shop Safe, Shop Local has definitely been a challenge. But it’s been so worthwhile and it’s wonderful to see events returning to East and North Herts as we carefully re-open.”
The winners of the CIPR Pride Awards will be announced at an online ceremony on the 5 October.
