Award-winning Italian restaurant, Tutti Grille at Freeport Braintree, staged a cook-off for children from Alec Hunter Academy, Braintree, Essex to celebrate Father’s Day.
Schoolchildren created ‘something great for dad’ at the cook-off and needed to explain why their dad would love the dish. Judging the competition was Lorna Evans, Operations and Restaurant Manager at Tutti Grille, she says: “At Tutti Grille we like to get involved in the local community and we’re very keen to help teach local schoolchildren how to cook. We were looking for use of fresh produce and creativity in the dishes.”
The competition was very tight with children creating mini masterpieces, such as chicken wrapped in parma ham with asparagus, seabass with couscous, macaroni cheese, salmon and blue cheese risotto and a double bacon hamburger with spicy chilli relish. After much consideration the winner was Matthew Hollingsworth with his beef and ale ‘No 1 dad pie’. Matthew had also created a fully branded Tutti menu for the occasion and included recipe details too. The judges commented: “Matthew’s pastry was out of this world and the beef was beautifully cooked with a lovely balance with all other flavours. Matthew really had gone the extra mile and had really answered the brief. We’re sure his dad will be very proud, and will also love to tuck into his pie too!”
Matthew won a free family meal for four at the restaurant. To find out more about Tutti Grille, and to book a table for Father’s Day visit tuttigrille.com.
